Victorian Celestial Pearl & Enamel Watch Chain Slide

An exceptionally detailed Victorian watch chain slide in warm, rosy 14k gold, centered around a beautifully dimensional heart and star motif and decorated with seed pearls, black enamel, and intricate hand engraved detailing.

The raised heart is set with a seed pearl within a six pointed star, surrounded by scrolling gold work and delicate floral motifs. Dark enamel accents emphasize the engraving, while the substantial size and dimensional construction give the piece wonderful presence.

Even more special, the original cork remains intact inside the slide. The cork provided friction against the chain, allowing the slide to be moved into position and then stay securely in place. A wonderful surviving detail of its original Victorian construction.

Originally designed to slide along a watch or muff chain, antique slides like this are wonderfully versatile for modern wear. It can still be incorporated into a necklace or watch chain in the traditional manner, worn as the focal element on a suitable chain or cord, or converted by a jeweler into a more conventional pendant. Its substantial size and ornate design make it especially well suited to being worn as a statement piece today.
