A serious piece of Victorian gold. At over 60 grams, this substantial curb bracelet has incredible weight and presence on the wrist. The 12k gold was originally given a bloomed finish, a Victorian technique used to create a rich, high karat appearance on the surface of the gold.
Over generations of wear, the bloom has softened along the bracelet's high points, revealing the warmer rosy gold beneath and creating a beautiful, naturally varied patina. It's the kind of finish that can only come from years of being worn and loved, and one of my favorite details of this piece.
Era: Victorian
Materials: 12k gold with a warm rosy tone and bloomed finish
Weight: 60.4 grams
Measurements: 7" long, 10.5 mm wide
Condition: Very good antique condition. The bloomed finish shows wear along the high points, revealing the warmer tone of the gold beneath. The clasp is a later replacement.
Collector's Note: Bloomed gold was created by treating the surface of a gold alloy to dissolve the base metals, leaving behind a microscopic layer of rich, buttery high kart gold on the surface. Because this historic finish can be altered by aggressive polishing, its preservation is part of what makes antique bloomed gold special.
